It’s important for mother cats to have a healthy diet. But what if the kittens are already born? Here are some tips for helping kitties become more outgoing.
- Kittens need contact with their mothers for the first four weeks of life to develop proper social skills. However, bottle feeding a kitten can also help them feel comfortable around people if mom absolutely cannot take care of the kitten.
- Speaking of mama cats, kittens can pick up a fear of people from their moms. Make sure mom is comfortable so kittens don’t pick up timid tendencies.
- Socialize your kitten. Make sure they are handled by a variety of gentle, loving people early in life.
- Create positive experiences around new people. Give your cat a treat when the doorbell rings, and reward them for good behavior around newcomers. This will give them happy associations with people.
- Consider adopting an older, relaxed feline to show your kitten the ropes and help them learn to relax and be social.
