Facebook App Users Generate Over $200,000 in Donations to Animal Shelter & Rescues

DogTime Media’s Save a Dog and Save a Cat Facebook applications reach donation goal

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – (July 12, 2012) – DogTime Media, the largest vertical media community focused exclusively on pet owners, today announced that their Facebook applications Save a Dog and Save a Cat have generated over $200,000 in donations to animal rescues and shelters across the nation.

The Save a Dog and Save a Cat applications were launched in 2009 with the goal of leveraging the power of social media to increase the exposure for shelter dogs and cats with the hope of finding them new homes. By selecting a zip code, breed type or other search criteria, Facebook users would be able to choose from over 70,000 photos of dogs and cats currently available for adoption across the country.

“We wanted to give animal lovers on Facebook the opportunity to share these photos with friends who might be interested in adopting, or know someone who is,” said DogTime Media President, Simon Tonner. “The applications generated a loyal following of users that have remained active throughout the life of the apps.”

The applications each have a Wall of Fame page where users have posted many heartwarming stories of adoptions that have come from the sharing of images of shelter dogs and cats across Facebook.

These apps were also a great opportunity for some of the leading pet brands to demonstrate their support for shelter animals through sponsorships that made the donations possible.

DogTime would like to recognize and congratulate the top 10 most active players on Save a Dog and Save a Cat for their dedication to the cause and for the roles they played in helping to reach the donations goal:
