Rumors of certain cat food brands recalling their products have flooded the internet in 2024, leaving cat owners confused and scared over their felines’ well-being. However, unfortunately, not all pet food recalls make it to the mainstream media. This is why it’s important for cat owners to stay up to date with information from reliable sources about the current pet foods under recall.
Wondering whether Weruva is among the cat food brands that have recalled their products in 2024? Here’s what you need to know.
Has Weruva recalled its cat food in 2024?
Fortunately, none of Weruva’s cat food products are under recall in 2024. The Thailand-based manufacturer — which has headquarters in various countries, including the United States and Australia — hasn’t initiated a voluntary recall so far, and the Food and Drug Administration hasn’t mandated them to do so.
Also, since there’s no official communication from Weruva or the FDA regarding a recall, it’s best to discard any speculations you may have encountered on social media.
If you would like to learn more about past and current cat food recalls, you can visit the Food and Drug Administration website.
When was the last Weruva cat food recall?
Weruva’s last recall occurred in 2017. The company voluntarily recalled all products from its Best Feline Friend (BFF) range. However, this recall only affected BFF products manufactured in Australia; Weruva has no history of recalls in the U.S.
In 2017, it was found that the BFF range of cat food contained insufficient levels of thiamine (vitamin B1), prompting the recall. Unfortunately, dozens of cats fell ill, and some died after consuming Weruva’s Thiamine-deficient foods.
Thiamine is essential in cats as it helps in metabolizing energy for use by various organs in your cat’s body. Thiamine deficiency can result in life-threatening symptoms and even death.
