Cats are curious, observant, and surprisingly clever when it comes to navigating their surroundings. Many feline parents have seen their pets figure out how to open doors, reach hidden treats, or squeeze through spaces that seem impossible. Their ability to quickly adapt and solve problems is part of what makes them so entertaining to live with.
That intelligence was recently on display in a viral video shared on Instagram, where one owner learned that a maze she spent hours building for her cat turned out to be far less challenging than expected.
Cat takes seconds to solve maze that owner spent hours making
The video, posted by Instagram user @mmeowmmia, shows the owner introducing her cat, Mia, to a maze. Made with cardboard walls arranged into several turns and pathways, the maze was designed to test whether the cat could successfully navigate her way to the exit.
At the beginning, Mia is placed carefully at the starting point while she looks around at her surroundings. For a few seconds, she appears to study the maze, glancing from side to side, deciding which direction to take. But it does not take long before she begins confidently moving forward.
Rather than getting trapped in corners or wandering through incorrect paths, Mia smoothly walks through the maze with surprising accuracy. She moves quickly from one opening to another and reaches the end in a matter of seconds.
The video includes text overlay that reads, “POV: You spent hours building a maze…” before cutting to “Mia:” and ending with a sudden RGB-style visual effect that humorously emphasizes how quickly the challenge was solved.
Viewers were impressed by the cat, with many heading to the comments section to joke about feline intelligence. “Let’s just start asking them for rent already,” one commenter joked. While another wrote, “Her intelligence is awesome.”
Several viewers also suggested that Mia may have already memorized the layout before being placed inside the maze. “You just showed her the maze from above when you were holding her,” one user pointed out. Another added, “Mia: I studied the layout when you were building it.”
Not everyone believed their own cats would perform the same way. One user joked, “If I put my cat in a maze to see what he does, he would honestly just lay down and wait for me to come ‘rescue’ him.’”
