Cats are not only incredibly intelligent, they’re also protective. One cat, who recently went viral on TikTok, is a perfect example of this. According to Newsweek, the cat led her pet parent to a missing feline friend, who was injured in a fight.
TikTok cat locates missing feline friend
The video, posted by @rescuecatmittens, shows a Tabby cat named Callie walking ahead of her pet parent on a sidewalk. It’s dark out, so the pet parent uses her cell phone flashlight to guide their way.
“Watch our cat lead us to our other cat, who had been missing all day and was injured…” the text on the video reads.
Callie wanders off the sidewalk, stopping and sniffing the leaf-covered ground. Soon, the pair find their fellow feline friend, Mittens, whose face is blurred.
The short clip has over 4 million views and almost 900 likes since the pet parent posted it on Sept. 23.
Thousands of concerned cat lovers commented on the situation.
“The fact that you wouldn’t show him gives me anxiety that its [sic] pretty bad. I’m thinking of you all and hope mittens will be okay,” one wrote.
“I’m so glad mittens was found and not worse off than he could be,” another added. “Mama cat thank you for finding mittens, she loves her brother.”
“Your cat is literally a hero,” another said.
Cat mom provides update on fur baby
In a subsequent video, the pet parent updated followers on Mittens.
“We believe Mittens went to his feral cat colony and got in a fight with another cat. When we found him he was trying to come home to us for help. He was more terrified than anything but luckily nothing very serious. Initially things seemed a lot worse than they actually were which we are grateful for. He ended up with about 24 stitches and possibly a sprained leg,” she wrote.
The pet parent went on to say that veterinarians bathed Mittens and trimmed his nails during sedation. He also received pain medicine and antibiotics.
Thanks to generous donors, the cat mom also shared that she was able to pay the emergency veterinary bill and has enough funds for follow-up care.
Finally, the cat mom offered advice to other pet parents on TikTok to avoid the pain of a missing cat: “Please check your doors often for damage so this doesn’t happen.”
