The colder weather is here, which means we’re about to approach peak TV binge watching season. Here are five cat-themed shows and flicks I recommend you start adding to your watch lists right now.
1. Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina
Fans of ’90s TV shows have fond memories of the original Sabrina The Teenage Witch series–not least because of the character Salem, an animatronic cat with a sarcastic streak. Thankfully, Salem is present, though a little creepier, in the modern update of the franchise, Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, which is making a claim to be one of fall’s mandatory binge watch Netflix shows.
2. The Lion In Your Living Room
The Lion In Your Living Room is a Netflix documentary that seeks to “explore the enigmas of the common house cat.” What follows in director Donna Zuckerbrot’s 50-minute flick shines a light on the history of cats becoming domesticated and includes the science behind cat noises like purring.
3. Kedi
Did you know that hundreds of thousands of cats wander around Istanbul in Turkey? Kedi is a YouTube-facilitated look at this feline phenomenon, where the cats live out a life as a valued and beloved part of the city’s community.
4. Dr. Seuss: The Cat In The Hat
Forget the remakes–the 1971 animated version of Dr. Seuss’s Cat In The Hat is a wonderfully freaky and funky introduction to the rhyming feline, voiced by Allan Sherman. Bonus kitty points if you can sing along to the entire “Calculatus Eliminatus” song. (Available to watch on Hulu.)
5. Big Cat Week
National Geographic’s Big Cat Week is all about getting up close with some of the natural world’s most impressive feline species. Head to Hulu to check out some of the most dramatic moments from the revered documentary series.
